For over a decade, Carla Moore-Williams has maintained bird baths in her yard, providing a safe haven for the numerous avian residents in her area.
Not only does this arrangement allow the birds to unwind and socialize, but it also allows Carla to capture stunning photographs of these feathered visitors.
On one fateful day, a charming little bluebird decided to use the bird bath for a leisurely bath.
Recognizing the potential for captivating shots, Carla eagerly retrieved her camera, anticipating elegant and graceful snapshots of the visitor.
“This particular bird is just one of a large population of eastern bluebirds we have, and I photograph them all every time the opportunity arises. I love to photograph the bluebirds because they make me laugh, especially when they are soaking wet.”
As the bluebird joyfully splashed about, Carla skillfully captured the scene. However, the outcome was quite different from her initial expectations.
The exuberant bird’s enthusiastic movements created a whirlwind of water, resulting in more whimsical, chaotic, and comical photos than elegant ones.
Oblivious to the effect he had on the photo shoot, the bluebird reveled in pure bliss, thoroughly enjoying his playful moments in the bath.
Although uncertain about the quality of the photographs, Carla decided to share the images nonetheless. They quickly won viewers’ hearts, to her delight, eliciting laughter and joy.
“I thought the photos were terrible, but they made people laugh, and that was perfect,” admitted Carla.
Photographing the diverse array of birds that frequent her backyard brings Carla immense joy. While these avian subjects may not always cooperate perfectly, their unpredictable nature adds a touch of intrigue to each snapshot, resulting in a collection of captivating and often hilarious images.
