When Brendan Lang embarked on a journey to absorb the breathtaking beauty of New Zealand’s landscapes, little did he know that he was about to capture something truly extraordinary.
Walking along a cliff with an awe-inspiring view of the ocean and a distant lighthouse, Lang decided to seize the moment and take some photographs.
He intended to immortalize the area’s ruggedness while including the lighthouse’s captivating presence.
“When I took this photo, I was going for a shot of the cliffs and ocean, as I love the ruggedness of the area, whilst also capturing the lighthouse,” Lang shared.
Lang continued snapping pictures as the day progressed, oblivious to the remarkable surprise awaiting him.
It wasn’t until later when he was sifting through his collection of photos, that he stumbled upon the unexpected gem.
There, right in the center of one particular image, amidst the billowing clouds, was a majestic seagull of immense proportions—almost as if it had materialized from another realm.

“[It’s] funny because I don’t even recall seeing a seagull during the moment I was down taking some pics.”
A sense of enchantment filled the air as Lang contemplated the mystical appearance of the seagull. Could a magical creature have descended from the heavens to make its presence known?
The thought lingered, yet Lang suspected a more rational explanation might exist. Recollecting that he had used his Samsung S21 Ultra smartphone to capture the photographs, Lang speculated that a seagull had gracefully glided by precisely as he pressed the shutter button. Though uncertain, he couldn’t help but be captivated by the image he had inadvertently created.
“My photos are taken on my Samsung S21 Ultra smartphone, and I believe whilst taking photos, a seagull had sailed past in between the photo’s shutter. I’m not really too sure, but [I] love this image.”
The ethereal seagull remained a captivating mystery that Lang shared with the world by posting the photo online. The image didn’t take long to capture the hearts of many who encountered it. Comments flooded in, praising the angelic appearance of the seagull and the tranquil atmosphere it conveyed.
“Heaps of people commented saying how angelic it appears and how peaceful the image is.”
Regardless of how the seagull had found its way into the frame, Lang couldn’t help but feel grateful for the beautiful encounter. The photograph had become a symbol of beauty, mystery, and a connection to the extraordinary.
In the end, it didn’t matter if the seagull was a creature of myth or a delightful accident; its presence had added a touch of magic to Lang’s already stunning photograph.
