Peanut, a vibrant and affectionate cockatoo, joined Frances Kent’s family 19 years ago as a curious chick seeking acceptance. Little did anyone know that Peanut would become more than just a pet; he would become an integral part of the family dynamics.

From day one, Peanut closely observed his dog siblings and picked up on their habits and language. Whenever the dogs rushed to the gate to bark, Peanut followed suit, adding his voice to the chorus. He proved to be a quick learner, embracing his role as the “security officer” of the household.

“He started copying the dogs from early on,” Frances Kent’s mom shares. “When the dogs would run to bark at the gate, he would follow and do the same. He is very affectionate, super intelligent, and can be just as mischievous.”

Recently, a video capturing Peanut’s canine-like antics went viral, drawing attention to this charming bird’s unique behavior.

In the clip, Peanut confidently raises the crest feathers on his head and barks in perfect synchronization with his dog companions. His impressive performance makes it almost impossible to distinguish his bark from that of the dogs.

But Peanut’s talents don’t end there. He’s far more than just a copycat. Over the years, he’s taken on the role of a protective mother hen to the dogs, cuddling them when they were puppies and gently putting them in their place when necessary.

“He’s been like a ‘mother hen’ to the dogs as puppies. Even today, he still cuddles them and also puts them in their place. He rules the roost!”

His love for attention and affection earned him the title of a “velcro bird,” and his family is more than happy to shower him with love and care.

“Cockatoos are known as ‘velcro birds’ as they need a lot of attention, and Peanut definitely demands it.”

Apart from his barking skills, Peanut surprises everyone with various dog and even human antics he’s learned to mimic. Whether watching TV, playing ball with the dogs, or expressing his boisterous personality, Peanut brings boundless joy and laughter to the household.

“He mimics quite a few dog antics and even some human antics, too. He enjoys watching TV, [and] playing ball with the dogs, and he can be very loud!”

In Kent’s own words, Peanut is not just a pet; he’s family. The bond between the affectionate cockatoo and his human and dog companions is truly special. Peanut has carved out a cherished place in their hearts, and his presence adds an undeniable charm to their lives.

“He is more than just a pet,” Kent shares. “He is family to us.”

As Peanut continues to be his delightful and mischievous self, the world can’t get enough of this barkingly brilliant bird, who reminds us that love and camaraderie can transcend species and that family comes in all shapes and feathers.
